The only drawback to this early Japan-made Charvel Surfcaster being sold in Cincinatti is (sigh!) no Vibrato tailpiece. Other than that she is a real beauty. If you don't know about the Surfcaster do a Google search and you'll see they are a highly desirable guitar especially the earliest Japanese models with two lipstick pickups (like this one). The fit and finish on this model is beautiful and I'd expect it to play like butter.
But alas... you can't play The Ventures (or Mr. Moto) without a Vibrato arm.
- Story In 1991 the world got its first look at the Surfcaster. Geared towards not just the 'surf' crowd, but also the country players, it featured a flamed maple top, dual lipstick pickups and a dive bombing tremolo system. We feel 25 years is long enough so we brought back an Eastwood tribute to this wonderful guitar.
- Charvel Surfcaster. After working at Fender for three years in the early 1970s, Wayne Charvel started 'Charvel's Guitar Repair' in 1974 to refinish and repair out-of-warranty Fender instruments. The shop earned a solid reputation among performing artists for its repair work, custom finishes, and upgraded parts manufacturing.
- This is a collectors guitar, and should be in the Chrarvel Surfcaster museum. This guitar was made at the Fuji-gen Gakki plant in Japan. They made all of the wonderful early charvel surfcasters and the high-end charvel imports from that era.

Mar 01, 2012 The Charvel Surfcaster surfaced in the early 1990s, and it was manufactured from 1991 to 2005 by the Charvel/Jackson guitar company. It was never very popular in terms of sales, but was considered a boutique style guitar and those who like them, like them a lot, like me! It is reminiscent of the Fender Jazzmaster but with a Rickenbacker style f.
